Is TikTok worth it for real estate agents?

Short answer

It is worth it if you are building a long-term audience and can post consistently for months, because TikTok reaches people who are not searching for a home yet. It is not worth it if you need leads this quarter — for that, paid social and portal presence convert far faster.

TikTok gets recommended to agents constantly and honestly assessed rarely. The platform is genuinely the best organic reach available to someone with no audience, and the audience it delivers is the least ready to transact of any channel you have.

What TikTok is good at

  • Reach without an existing following — the strongest of any platform
  • Building recognition in a local market over months
  • Educational content, where the audience is genuinely large
  • Recruiting and referral relationships with other agents
  • Testing which messages land before you spend on ads

What it is bad at

Immediate transaction intent. Someone watching a home tour on TikTok at 11pm is almost never in your market, in your price band, and ready to buy. The lead quality is low by design, because the platform optimises for entertainment rather than intent. Compare that to a portal, where every visitor is actively looking.

The realistic timeline

Three to six months of consistent posting before the account has enough signal to reach a useful local audience, and longer before that audience produces business. Agents who quit at week six are not wrong that it did not work — they are describing week six accurately.

Slideshows are underrated

TikTok’s photo carousel format performs well and takes a fraction of the effort of a video. A list of seven listing photo mistakes, one per slide, is a fifteen-minute post. For an agent testing whether the channel is worth it at all, slideshows are the cheapest possible experiment.

The honest recommendation

If you are already producing content for Reels, cross-post to TikTok — the marginal cost is a few minutes and the upside is real. If you are starting from nothing and need business this quarter, put the same hours into your listing photos, your portal presence, and a small paid budget instead. TikTok is a long game with a real payoff for people who play it that way.

Common questions

How long before TikTok generates real estate leads?

Realistically three to six months of consistent posting before the account reaches a meaningful local audience, and longer before that audience transacts. It is a brand channel with a long fuse, not a lead channel.

Can you cross-post Reels to TikTok?

Yes, and it is the highest-return version of using both. Download without the platform watermark where possible — some platforms suppress content that visibly came from a competitor.

Do TikTok slideshows work for real estate?

Well, and they take a fraction of the production effort of video. A listicle of listing mistakes or a neighbourhood comparison as a photo carousel is one of the cheapest formats available for testing whether the channel works for you.

The formats that work on TikTok are all visual: before-and-afters, transformations, comparisons. PropWalk produces them from listing photos you already have. First photo on every tool is free.
